The mountain resort of Les Gets opened its bike park over the weekend of May 30-31 and Monday June 1 for the first time since strict Covid-19 regulations were lifted across France.

The resort, well known for its extensive bike park and hosting of regular World Cup mountain bike events, will continue to open lift serviced riding during the weekends only, until June 20, when it opens full-time up until September.

The third round of the UCI World Cup Mountain Biking event takes place from September 19-20, 2020 (revised dates, subject to global health situation).

Many of the trails have been updated for this summer season and a brand new bike park has been built. Riders can travel in two’s on the chairlifts with two bikes attached – normal regulations. Social distancing measures are in place for all lift queues, with regular disinfection of lifts and communal areas.

Hydroalcoholic gels are available for customers use and the most challenging trails are closed off, to help prevent possible accidents. There should be a ten metre gap between mountain bikers on the trails and no sharing of individual equipment such as gloves, helmet or bicycles.

Operating lifts include: Chavannes Express chairlift (09h00-17h30) and Nauchets Express chairlift (09h00-17h30). There’s a total of 12 open trails available. The Mont-Chery Gondola and area will open during the main summer season.

Chris Chapman from Rush Adventures, a chalet operation based in Les Gets, said:

There was a great atmosphere at the bike park and it was all flowing really well, I never felt uncomfortable and I went up with my 7 year old son. The queue looked huge when we arrived but it didn’t take longer than 10 minutes to get on the lift – the team has done amazing work on the tracks too. It was just a great experience to be up there and a really good turnout of people with lots of French and British locals and people from the surrounding region as well. The new norm is not so bad! It really felt like summer was back, even the cafes and bars were doing take outs, the whole village came alive, I’m just looking forward to next weekend now.
