The Swiss resort of Crans-Montana is putting itself more on the map for mountain bikers of all abilities as it starts to prepare for the 2025 Mountain Biking World Championships, when it hosts the cross country races. .
A number of new trails and routes have been opened up, providing a mix of riding opportunities including cross country trails, beginners and family areas and classic lift serviced bike park downhill tracks.
Valais Alpine Bike Route: Crans-Montana to Leukerbad
The Valais canton has a new multi-stage route that highlights the best alpine single trails in the region. The route starts in Crans-Montana, with a varied stage which links the centre of the Haut-Plateau region to the wine-growing region of Leuk via the Tièche valley. The route suits experienced riders that like singletrack trails and technical sections. The 23 km route takes around 3 to 4 hours to complete.
New Flow Trail From Montana Village to Loc
Crans-Montana has designed a flowing descent that winds its way down below the Crans-Montana hillside via dirt tracks with sections including sharp twists and bends. The beauty of the destination is highlighted along the way, as it starts in the meadows, then plunges into the forest, and leads through the vineyards below.
Family Forest Loop
For those new to mountain biking and looking for a safe and fun place to start off gently The Moubra Forest is home to a circuit with 11 stations where beginners can learn the basic techniques of mountain biking in a fun and safe way. This agility course will challenge all bike fans, and they’ll have fun tackling the various obstacles and modules along this course just by Lake Moubra.
Classic Downhill Bike Park Riding
Downhill mountain biking fans can experience three downhill routes: a black, a red and a blue trail. These routes offer panoramic views over the Rhone Valley, followed by a passage through the forest with a series of technical sections. The Crans-Cry d’Er cable car makes all the infrastructure very easy to reach, and it’s open until the end of October.
Enduro World Series competition
Crans-Montana is hosting the Enduro World Series, the world cup for enduro racing, for the second time between 15 and 18 September. During the four days of competition, pro and amateur riders will compete in enduro and e-bike races. There’s also an event village in Ycoor with a number of stands, entertainment and concerts, not forgetting the areas bordering the race track where it’s possible to enjoy the spectacle.
